CertIFR qualification now available in Spanish and Portuguese
Supporting Latin America's adoption of IFRS
20 May 2009
ACCA has now made its Certificate in International Financial Reporting (CertIFR) qualification available in Spanish and Portuguese, ahead of the planned full adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) by Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Uruguay between 2009 and 2012.
'It is now very timely for ACCA to offer translations for Latin America as IFRS adoption is on the horizon and approaching fast for these markets,' said Catherine Edwards, ACCA head of qualifications. 'Finance professionals not already familiar with the principles of IFRS will be faced with the challenge of developing a working knowledge of IFRS as quickly as possible – and ACCA's certificate is a fast, efficient, and on-demand solution to meet these needs.'
Commenting on this new development, Jorge Manoel, partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, assurance leader in South America, said: 'The accounting professionals in Latin American companies need to be skilled to face the challenges of the convergence to IFRS. The Certificate in International Financial Reporting from ACCA is the first step to prepare these professionals. This certification offers the possibility of obtaining a qualification from a global professional accounting body with the advantage of being accessible through the internet and in the local language.'
The study materials and the assessment for the certificate are delivered online through ACCA's e-qualification portal, and the CertIFR is the ideal qualification to help practitioners develop an understanding of IFRS or gain formal recognition for their existing IFRS skills and knowledge.
Accountants in Europe who have already been required to adapt to the challenge of understanding IFRS have already taken the certificate, which has been available in English for the past five years.
