Leadership development in the Asia-Pacific context:

a case study of a leadership development program for post graduate scholarship students

The session will provide an overview of the Australian Leadership Awards: Leadership Development Program which is a four module program tailored to support the development of scholars in Australia from the Asia-Pacific region on AusAID funded Australian Leadership Awards scholarships. This session will also examine:

• The Challenges of teaching leadership concepts to such a culturally and disciplinary diverse group.
• Whether Western leadership theories and models, largely developed in the US and Western Europe, are universally applicable or whether we need to consider the development of theories and models more suited to the Asia-Pacific context.
• The benefits of developing a network of leaders across the Asia-Pacific region with strong ties to Austalia.
