ACCA HK Awards for Sustainability Reporting Introduced New Awards
ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Hong Kong invites organisations of all sizes and sectors to submit applications for the ACCA Hong Kong Awards for Sustainability Reporting 2008, the sixth year to be held in Hong Kong. The closing date for entry is 12 September 2008.
Sustainability reporting involves reporting on the economic, environmental and social impact of organisational performance. The Awards this year embrace the categories of environmental reporting, sustainability reporting and the newly added category of social reporting. In addition to the main awards and commendations, this year ACCA Hong Kong will launch new awards on "First-time report", "Innovation in reporting" and "Excellent communication using the Internet". The introduction of these new awards is to encourage participation and to acknowledge a wider range of efforts that organisations had devoted in enhancing sustainability and transparency.
ACCA has been promoting greater transparency in the reporting of organisations' social and environmental impacts for almost 20 years and its involvement in the reporting awards covers more than 10 countries in Europe, Africa, North America/Canada and the Asia Pacific region. The aims of these Awards are to give recognition to organisations which report and disclose non-financial information including environmental, social or full sustainability performance data; to encourage the uptake of non-financial reporting; and to raise awareness of corporate transparency and accountability issues. The judging panel will base on completeness, credibility and communication in assessing the reports. CLP Holdings Limited was the winner of the Best Sustainability Report Award last year and MTR Corporation was the runner-up of last year's Award. Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited and Gammon Construction Limited received the Commendations on their respective disclosures in their reports.
