Top ACCA employer awards for Office of the Comptroller & Auditor General
The Office of the Comptroller & Auditor General (C&AG) has received two top employer awards from ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).
John Buckley, Comptroller and Auditor General, was presented by the head of ACCA Ireland, Kevin Kernan, with the ACCA’s Professional Development Award and the Trainee Gold Award in recognition of the commitment and support given to his staff in the area of continuing professional development and to their trainees studying for the ACCA Qualification.
John Buckley, Comptroller & Auditor General, said, “A key foundation of this Office’s success is the capability of our people. ACCA’s accreditation challenges our organisation to maintain the highest quality development approaches and its approval for both our professional development and trainee development programmes helps us ensure that our staff are continuously being challenged in their work. We strive at all times to provide training and development that underpins our public audit mandate and ensures that we continue to attract the highest calibre trainee accountants to our organisation.”
Kevin Kernan, Head of ACCA Ireland said: ‘When deciding on a potential employer, employees are increasingly considering the importance of continuous training and development as part of their overall package. ACCA's professional development and trainee schemes provide a benchmark of good practice to employers and employees around the world. It gives the Office of the Comptroller & Auditor General public recognition for the quality of support and training they invest in their employees and potential employees.”

ACCA Approved Employer: Professional Development
As part of this programme, employers whose training schemes meet ACCA’s rigorous criteria can become ACCA Approved Employers and are rewarded with a broad range of tools to help implement their staff development programmes. These include e-learning resources such as online courses, a CPD planning tool known as the professional development matrix and a knowledge library, an internet based research resource tool.
ACCA Approved Employer: Trainee Development
ACCA Trainee Development approval reflects the level of support that an employer provides to ACCA trainees and affiliates and represents global best practice in the training and development of ACCA trainees and affiliates.
1. ACCA is the global body for professional accountants. We aim to offer business-relevant, first-choice qualifications to people of application, ability and ambition around the world who seek a rewarding career in accountancy, finance and management. We have 325,606 students and 122,426 members in 170 countries worldwide with 18,500 members and students in Ireland.
2. ACCA believes that globalisation of business requires one set of reporting standards. We favour principles-based, not rules-based standards, which is why we support the worldwide implementation of IFRS.
3. ACCA believes that tax systems should be transparent, simplified, fair and certain.
4. Complying with regulations affects SMEs disproportionately, which is why ACCA urges governments and standard setters to ‘think small first'’
5. ACCA experts are available for media comment on all aspects of Irish and international accounting, auditing, tax, small business, environmental reporting, corporate governance, business law and public sector finance.
