Enterprise Minister says ACCA Scotland is adding to the strength and professionalism of business
Jim Mather MSP, Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism launched ACCA’s (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) new international accountancy qualification yesterday at the Point Hotel and Conference Centre, Edinburgh. The launch was hosted by ACCA Scotland president, Hazel Burt.
At the launch, the Minister said: 'The financial services industry is of vital importance to Scotland in achieving increased, sustainable economic growth. Accountancy professionals have an important role in advising businesses large and small in every sector of the economy.'
He added: 'I welcome the achievements of ACCA Scotland in adding to the strength and professionalism of business.'
Professionalism, ethics and workplace competencies are at the heart of ACCA’s new qualification. During the launch, ACCA global chief executive Allen Blewitt focussed on key aspects of ACCA’s demand-led qualification and reaffirmed the organisation’s long-standing commitment to Scotland.
Geoff Ellis, chief executive of FD Concerts – the company behind T in the Park and King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut – also addressed the audience, highlighting the importance of financial skills for business success.
Hazel Burt, ACCA Scotland president, said at the launch: 'Financial education pervades every part of individual and organisational life and is integral to the operation of every economy. It is imperative to the future success and growth of the Scottish economy and its ability to compete in the global market. ACCA looks forward to helping the Scottish Government in its on-going development of learning and skills policies fit for the country’s educational and economic needs.'
