Edward Yee Fung
director of studies, Students Accountancy Centre (SAC), Trinidad and Tobago
Following a five-year career in banking, Edward Yee Fung became interested in the accountancy profession and the opportunities for self-improvement which it offered. He chose ACCA because, for him, the ACCA qualification presented the only option for advancement.
His accountancy career began at Texaco where he worked as a trainee accountant, before moving on to Metal Industries Limited to work as a fully-qualified accountant and secretary to the board.
In 1983 Edward embarked on his ultimate dream - to train ACCA students in Trinidad and Tobago. To this end, he founded the Students Accountancy Centre. The achievement of this dream remains the most memorable point in his career.
'Since its inception, the college has produced thousands of exceptional ACCA graduates who are a credit to the profession,' he says.
But he feels that the learning process should continue long after the students have left the classroom: 'Following the Enron and WorldCom affairs, the accountancy profession has come under close scrutiny. The profession is now presented with an opportunity to make fundamental changes to its codes of professional conduct.'
