Harryam Parmesar
With an older brother who is an FCCA and two younger brothers studying to become accountants, studying accountancy is something of a tradition in the Parmesar family!
Harryam began studying in the 1980s when Guyana was gripped by a severe economic crisis, which caused shortages of study materials and electricity blackouts. Yet his struggles made him more determined to gain an ACCA qualification.
"The occupational and financial security I have gained have been ample reward for the difficulties I endured," he says.
After completing an accounting technician qualification, he joined Alli & Sons in 1984, a public practice firm. After 19 years of loyal dedication, he was made a Partner, in recognition of his hard work and commitment.
In his free time, Harryam also helped a number of students during their professional exams. He would like to continue in a similar vein, helping to develop the skills of young members of the accountancy profession, and also of young people studying business studies. He has words of advice, for those who may feel browbeaten.
"Those that consistently work hard will be successful, and will overcome any difficulties that they might face."
