Workplace competence
ACCA students and affiliates are required to complete a minimum of three years’ practical work experience in order to demonstrate sufficient workplace competences to merit membership. The standard of competency required – in a range of technical, management and personal skills – is common for all aspiring members, regardless of the country in which membership is sought.
Commonality is at the heart of ACCA’s approach to practical experience requirements, which is grounded in extensive research of stakeholders, especially employers, regulators and ACCA members. Yet the standard is flexible enough for there to be no conflict between individual training needs and the employer’s business objectives.
The common approach means that employers, as well as corporate and individual ‘end users’ of accounting services – anywhere in the world – can be confident that ACCA members with whom they deal have sound working knowledge of the accounting principles upon which they have been examined, to the same standard of competency.
