Pensions
This section brings together documents and news relating to pensions issues. This reflects the fact that pensions have become increasingly significant - both politically and technically, with new legislation pending both in the UK and Europe and new developments in accounting and auditing standards.
Where possible, this section contains direct links to relevant documents; where this is not possible links are provided to information where members can access the documents concerned. New and revised material will be added to on a regular basis.

The financial reporting of pensions
A fundamental re-appraisal of the principles underpinning the reporting of pension costs, and reporting by pension schemes, has been published. See www.frc.org.uk/asb/press/pub1513.html
This study has been drafted by the UK Accounting Standards Board (ASB) and published as part of a wider European project called the ‘Proactive Accounting Activities in Europe’ initiative.
The paper seeks to contribute to the long-term review of the financial reporting of pensions to which the International Accounting Standards Board and the US Financial Accounting Standards Board are committed.
It does not propose any changes to existing domestic or international accounting standards or guidance in this area. Rather, the paper addresses core issues surrounding pensions accounting and as well as contemporary developments which, it is argued, stand to be addressed in any long-term professional response in this area, for example, the trend away from defined benefit (DB) schemes and towards schemes which incorporate elements of both DB and defined contribution (DC) schemes. ASB invites views on this paper by 14 July 2008.
Current pensions issues
The Pensions Management Institute (PMI) has developed an on-line facility which enables users to keep up to date with the fast pace of change in the world of pensions. The PMI TV service features recorded discussions which bring together experienced commentators from various arms of the industry to debate pressing issues. The channel, which is updated regularly in line with developments in the field, will be of interest to employers, trustees, auditors and all others who need to keep up to date with pensions issues. www.pensions-pmi.org.uk/pmitv/index.asp
